Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani denied information about preparations for an attack on Saudi Arabia.
"The Islamic Republic of Iran adheres to a policy of good neighborliness, acts on the basis of mutual respect and within the framework of international law, seeks to strengthen stability and security in the region and will continue constructive interaction with neighboring countries," Kanaani said in a statement released Wednesday on the Iranian Foreign Ministry's website.
Earlier, Reuters quoted the National Security Council (NSC) as saying that the U.S. is concerned by the threats to Saudi Arabia from Iran, is ready to respond if necessary and is in constant contact through military and intelligence channels with the kingdom. An NSS spokesman made the statement after The Wall Street Journal reported that Saudi Arabia had shared intelligence with the U.S. about Iran's plans to attack targets in the kingdom.
