The Kazakh authorities have prepared amendments to the legislation under which applicants for citizenship of the republic should know the Kazakh language.

As noted in the response of the prime minister of Kazakhstan Alikhan Smailov to the request of the deputies, amendments to the law "On Citizenship of the Republic of Kazakhstan" have been developed to date, which stipulate that ignorance of the state language, basic history and national legislation will be additional grounds for refusal to accept Kazakh citizenship and restoration of citizenship. The amendments are aimed at preventing the facts of dual citizenship, the document notes.

For those who want to learn the Kazakh language, traditions, and culture of the Kazakh people, there are more than 170 Sunday schools in the country and the language may also be taught at training and methodological centers under local administrations, according to Smailov's response.
