Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban delivered a speech of thanks to the presidents of Azerbaijan and Turkey, Aliyev and Erdogan, at the summit of the Organization of Turkic States in Samarkand on November 11. 

According to Daily Hungary, Orban emphasized that "Azerbaijan was “Hungary’s only real option” when it came to diversifying its energy sources and importing gas from a country other than Russia."

"We need peace and cooperation instead of war and sanctions. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan was the only leader to successfully mediate between Russia and Ukraine. President Ilham Aliyev is helping Europe diversify its energy sources. We owe them gratitude!' Orban said.

Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto decided to keep up at a meeting of foreign ministers in Samarkand and said Budapest sees the Turkic Council as a peace forum where all members advocate a diplomatic solution to the war in Ukraine, in contrast to the rhetoric of escalation common in international politics. According to him, the council advocates East-West cooperation and, as such, is key to global security. Szijjarto noted that Hungary, which is an observer in the Council along with Turkmenistan, is seeking to strengthen its role in the organization. He added that the government has opened embassies in all six member states, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Turkey and Uzbekistan. Hungary also offers a total of 990 grants for students from the six members who want to study there, he added. According to him, trade turnover between Hungary and the six states of the Turkic Council has grown two and a half times in the last 12 years, reaching 4.5 billion euros. Incidentally, Turkey has allowed Hungarian citizens to enter the country with ID cards, Szijjarto said. Szijjarto wrote on Facebook that Hungarian tourists will now be able to enter Turkey with their ID cards (without passports).

The dithyrambs in Samarkand were preceded by a variety of events and eulogies on November 9, when Budapest celebrated "Victory Day of Azerbaijan" with a number of events.

The heartfelt friendship between Baku and Budapest began when Orban came to power. Having taken over the Hungarian government for the second time in 2010, in 2012 Orban already found common language with Aliyev and, contrary to the law and morality, extradited to Azerbaijan a criminal and a thug in the literal sense of the word, safarov, sentenced to life imprisonment.

Safarov was welcomed with honors in his homeland, immediately released, promoted in rank and showered with all possible benefits. As the media wrote, the deal was not cheap for Azerbaijan.
