When your adversary makes threats, you cannot ignore them, you must always be prepared for war. The best way to achieve peace is to be ready for war, Harut Sasunyan, publisher and editor of The California Courier, told NEWS.am.

He noted that Aliyev keeps on threatening Armenia with the use of force, and he cited Armenia's alleged failure to fulfill its commitments under the November 9 statement.

"Aliyev once again brought up the issue of the corridor and said that he demanded the withdrawal of Armenian forces from Artsakh (which has already been done). Aliyev distorts both issues.

But it is obvious that he is thinking about something else, he does not intend to stop the aggression. Even on the day of the Washington meeting, Azerbaijan was shelling Armenian positions. That means that Baku is totally ignoring the peace talks and continues doing what it wants," Sasunyan added.

He explained that both the U.S. and France are interested in stability in the South Caucasus region so they can get two things. The first is Azerbaijani energy resources, which Europe badly needs today. The second is to spread their influence in the region, which until recently was a zone of Russian influence.

"But this does not mean that Turkey and Azerbaijan will allow the West to do what it wants. Ankara and Baku will continue to impose their will on Armenia and the region. The West does not intend to use force against Azerbaijan and Turkey, especially since Ankara is a NATO ally and Azerbaijan is Turkey's ally.

The only thing the West has done for two years since the 44-day war is to make various statements, which Turkey and Azerbaijan ignore," Sasunyan stressed.

Comparing Armenia and Ukraine's importance for the West, he noted that Ukraine is in the center of Europe, and any European country is much more important for the West than any South Caucasian country, including Georgia, which has long advocated strongly pro-Western positions.
