The Democratic Party of the United States gets 50 seats in the Senate and thus retains control of the upper house of Congress, CNN predicted.
According to journalists, the Democrats won 50 seats after their candidate, Catherine Cortez Masto, won in Nevada. Republicans still have 49 seats.
CNN notes that with 96% of the ballots counted, Cortez Masto edged out Republican challenger Adam Laxalt by 0.5%, about 5,000 votes.
The fate of another Senate seat will be decided in December in a runoff election in Georgia.
Democrats need to win 50 of the 100 seats in the Senate to control, since the upper chamber is headed by the Democratic Party representative, U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris.
