CIA Director William Burns visited Kyiv the day before to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and his intelligence colleagues, CNN reported, citing officials.

According to the U.S. official, Burns was safe in the U.S. embassy during the Russian missile strikes on the country.

The CIA director's trip to Kyiv came just after Monday's meeting in Ankara with his Russian counterpart Sergei Naryshkin. This is Burns' second known visit to Kyiv in less than a month.

In Kyiv, Burns discussed the U.S. warning to the head of Sergei Naryshkin not to use nuclear weapons and reiterated the U.S. commitment to support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression.
