The U.S. and its allies may agree on a ceiling on Russian oil at around $60 a barrel on November 23,The Wall Stree Journal reported, citing knowledgeable sources.
According to the publication's interlocutors, the price ceiling, which could also be set at $70, is currently the central sanctions measure of the West against Russia.
Earlier, the director of the Anselm Research Center Maxim Kanischev said that the price ceiling on Russian oil from the G7 and the European Union will turn out to be a hole, as there are hundreds of legal ways to circumvent the ban on the insurance and transportation of oil above the limit. In his opinion, imposing a price cap on Russian crude is a multiple paradox of double standards.
In the first half of September the press service of the U.S. Treasury Department said that the U.S., together with its allies from G7 (Great Britain, Germany, Italy, Canada, France, Japan and the USA) and the European Union (EU) would impose a ban on the maritime transportation of Russian oil on December 5 and oil products - on February 5. The two sides have not reached an agreement on gas price restrictions.
