YEREVAN. – Joghazi’s reservoir on Armenian-Azerbaijani border, the reservoir, which in Soviet times was used for irrigation of Armenian and Azerbaijani lands and which costs $2.5 million, has been robbed.
Since 1990, the reservoirs irrigating the Armenian lands were robbed, dismantled and handed to a metal scrap just on the border. Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor Office presented such a case to the Armenian General Prosecutor’s Office.
“An investigation had been started, but there were no arrests, then it turned out that the case had been closed and no investigation was taking place. And you know what the excuse was? That there is an irresistible force, that’s Azerbaijan and pumps were found in the territory of Azerbaijan, ” said Helsinki Citizens’ Assembly Vanadzor Office director Arthur Sakunts, during the interview with Armenia News-News.am reporter.
According to him, the reservoir had always been in the territory of Armenia and had always served to irrigate the villages of Armenia.
“If we are not the implementers of the robbery, then we’re dealing with an international crime and at least the border guards, should be aware of what’s happening, as there was constant supervision” Sakunts said.
He thinks that the case is being slurred as the disclosure is not profitable, and the excuse is lame.
