YEREVAN. - The opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) starts a series of rallies which will finally reach a point when the ruling regime will be forced to admit people’s victory, said the ANC Coordinator Levon Zurabyan.

Speaking at a rally in Armenia’s capital Zurabyan commented on the recent cables related to Armenia disclosed by WikiLeaks website.

“The recently disclosed US embassy cables disclose some facts of the 2008 elections. In particular, that Levon Ter-Petrosyan [ANC leader] poled 450,000-550,000 votes. Moreover, according to member of Constitutional Court Valery Poghosyan, the decisions were forced from presidential administration,” he said.

Zurabyan also stressed that WikiLeaks cables revealed that former Armenian President Robert Kocharyan ordered to disperse the crowd on March 1, 2008.

Information about voting turnout was also rigged, therefore one can assert that Ter-Petrosyan won in the first round as 1.1 million people participated (against official 1.6 million), the opposition activist stressed.

“We won presidential elections and elections in Yerevan’s Alderman Council but they stole our victory,” Zurabyan emphasized. “We will force snap elections. The authorities are using arrest of Tigran Arakelyan [opposition activist] to ruin the dialogue with the opposition.”
