French President Emmanuel Macron hosted Ara Toranian and Mourad Papazian, co-chairmen of France's Coordination Council of Armenian Organizations at the Elysee Palace.
Co-Chair of the Coordinating Council of French-Armenian Organizations Ara Toranian spoke to NEWS.am about the importance of the meeting, noting that the hosting of the French-Armenian community representatives at the presidential level takes place only in France.
He said that the Coordinating Council of Armenian Organizations has established close relations with the French government since the presidencies of Chirac, Sarkozy and Hollande, and the organization is present all over the country, includes all the Armenian organizations of the country, and is closely represented in all the systems of the country.
"Macron knows very well about the situation in Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh, every year he or his representative comes to a reception organized by us. Macron previously spoke about the inadmissibility of leaving Armenians alone and promised to help. Now it is time to move from words to deeds. We think that France must help the people of Nagorno-arabakh and prevent the deepening of the humanitarian crisis under blockade and in the conditions of shortage of food and medicine. Such assistance can also have a certain political impact," said the Co-Chairman of the Coordinating Council of Armenian Organizations.
He believes that France must become even more active on the ground as well as at the diplomatic level.
"We are waiting for news. We expect news this week or next week. Hopefully something will happen. We have stated that the situation is difficult and the world needs to do more. Azerbaijan wants to isolate the Armenians from the world, but we ourselves must isolate Azerbaijan and leave it alone in the world. France can help the Armenians together with other countries. Paris can find common ground with Americans and even Russians in this matter," Toranian stressed.
When asked if France is ready to provide military or serious economic support to Armenia in case of need, our interlocutor replied: "Why not? If steps are taken against Armenia, I do not think that France and not only France will sit and allow Armenia to be in a difficult situation. Right now all the aid goes to Ukraine, but the issue of Armenia also has an important place for France."
