Tens of thousands of Israelis took to the streets in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv against the Netanyahu government's proposed reform of the country's legal system on the eve of the first reading of the bill in the Knesset, RIA Novosti reported.

There is also a massive strike taking place across the country, with up to a million people participating, according to media estimates.

The thousands-strong protest began Monday morning on the eve of a key vote by the Israeli parliament (Knesset) legislative committee on the first reading of the Netanyahu government's new judicial reform. The first part of the reform, proposed by Justice Minister Yariv Levin in early January, would give the government control over the selection committee of judges, as well as limit the Supreme Court's judicial review of basic laws.
