A South Jakarta district court sentenced former Indonesian interior minister Ferdy Sambo to death, the Jakarta Post reported.
The premeditated murder of assistant Yosua Hutabarat served as the reason for the sentence. The sentence was harsher than the life imprisonment the prosecutor's office demanded for Sambo as the main perpetrator.
According to media reports, Sambo was found guilty of the premeditated murder of Hutabarat on July 8, 2022. Since then, the former official has tried repeatedly to challenge the verdict.
Sambo, according to the court's version, ordered another of his aides, Richard Eliezer, to shoot Hutabarat. The former minister then himself shot his subordinate in the head with his own gun.
The sentence was read on February 13 and was accompanied by applause and joy from the prosecution.
It is currently unknown when the sentence will be carried out.
