Increased supplies of Azerbaijani gas last year contributed to the energy security of the continent in the short term. And the goal in the medium and long term is the expansion of the Southern Gas Corridor proposed by Azerbaijan. APA reports that the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev stated about it at the round table on "Pipeline Dreams: Energy Security of the Future" held within the frames of Munich Security Conference.

He noted that by 2027 gas transportation via TAP is to be increased from current 11 bcm up to 20 bcm, and via TANAP from 16 bcm up to 31 bcm.

Aliyev also reminded that renewable energy plays a special role in the cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union and Azerbaijan has recently taken some important steps in this field. Stressing that Azerbaijan has already implemented a number of projects in this direction, signed various documents related to the production of electricity up to 25 gigawatts, Aliyev said that this will create conditions not only for domestic consumption of green energy produced in Azerbaijan, but also to export it to Europe, which will contribute to the energy security of Europe in the medium and long term. Aliyev said that Azerbaijan will continue to play an important role in Europe's energy security.

A memorandum of understanding on strategic partnership in the energy sphere between Azerbaijan and the European Union was signed last July in Baku with the participation of President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, Ilham Aliyev said that in accordance with this document cooperation between Azerbaijan and the European Union in the field of energy would continue to expand.
