Italy will provide Ukraine with up to five warplanes in case other EU countries do the same, the newspaper La Repubblica writes.

According to the newspaper, the matter is unlikely to be about the fifth generation fighters F-35 or Eurofighter planes. It is expected that the Italian government will provide Kiev with Amx attack jets, which were developed jointly with Brazil, as well as third-generation Tornado fighters.

According to la Repubblica, the agreement on deliveries of the aforementioned planes may be plugged during Italian Prime Minister Giorgi Meloni's visit to Kiev on 21 February.

The authors of the article noted that Rome is not going to take the initiative in the issue of supplies of fighter jets, in particular, due to the fact that the Italian society started to oppose the continuation of the conflict.

However, Prime Minister Meloni will not object if the West takes this step, according to the publication. According to the newspaper, an alternative to deliveries to Italy could be to support the British decision to provide several dozens of Typhoons to Ukraine.
