China on Tuesday unveiled the text of a global security initiative previously put forward by Chinese President Xi Jinping, the text of the initiative was disseminated by PRC media.

As noted in the text of the initiative, today our world is changing like never before, and the international community is facing many challenges that no one has faced before. Deficits in peace, development, security and governance are growing, and humanity is once again at a crossroads in history.
  
In this light, China has put forward six principles for global security. First, the vision of common, comprehensive, cooperative and sustainable security must be pursued. The essence of the principle is to uphold the concept of common security by respecting and safeguarding the security of each country, promoting cooperation, and ensuring security through political dialogue and peace negotiations.

Secondly, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries must be respected. It stresses that all countries, large or small, strong or weak, rich or poor, are equal members of the international community, and their sovereignty and right to choose their own social systems and development paths must be respected.

Third, a commitment to upholding the purposes and principles of the UN Charter must be maintained. The Cold War mentality, unilateralism, block confrontation and hegemonism are contrary to the spirit of the UN Charter and must be rejected, the text notes.

Fourth, the legitimate security interests of all countries must be taken seriously. Humanity is an indivisible security community. The security of one country should not be pursued at the expense of the security of others; any country, in pursuit of its own security, must take into account the reasonable security interests of other states.

Fifth, there is a need to remain committed to the peaceful resolution of differences and disputes between countries through dialogue. It is stressed that war and sanctions are not a fundamental way of resolving disputes, the international community should support efforts contributing to the peaceful resolution of crises and encourage conflicting parties to build trust, resolve disputes and strengthen security through dialogue.

The sixth principle is the need for security in both traditional and non-traditional areas. China encourages all countries to work together to address regional disputes and global issues such as terrorism, climate change, cybersecurity and biosecurity.
