The Finnish government decided at a meeting on Thursday to send three Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine for demining, local media reported.

The country's defense ministry reportedly said the contribution could not be large because of its long land border with Russia and the fact that the country is not yet a NATO member.

Mikko Savola, head of Finland's Defense Ministry, told a news conference that the tanks are designed for demining the terrain, with a special device attached to their front.

This is very good and necessary equipment, he said.

He called the decision important, but Ukraine needs much more support than tanks. Finland's support for Ukraine will not waver, he said.

The shipment of tanks will take place as part of the 13th military aid package for Ukraine. Its total amount is 160 million euros.

The previous, January's package, worth more than 400 million euros, was the largest to date. In total, Finland has provided military support to Ukraine worth 750 million euros.
