Peru's president has recalled her ambassador to Mexico indefinitely after Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador called the country's government unconstitutional, the BBC reported.
Obrador also said that former Peruvian President Pedro Castillo was "illegally removed from power.
Peru's current leader, Dina Boluarte, condemned what she called "unacceptable" interference in the country's "internal affairs.
She said that the remarks would seriously affect relations between the countries.
Еhe ouster of Peruvian President Pedro Castillo in December sparked mass protests that have continued across the country and resulted in at least 50 deaths.
Castillo, 53, is currently in jail on charges of sedition and conspiracy after an unsuccessful attempt to dissolve Congress to stop an impeachment vote against him.
