Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Sunday expressed deep sorrow over a shipwreck that killed at least 30 migrants and vowed to stop illegal maritime migration to prevent further tragedies, Reuters reported.

Prime Minister Georgia Meloni expresses deep sorrow over the many lives cut short by human traffickers. The government is committed to preventing the departure of migrants and with them these tragedies, and will continue to do so, primarily by demanding maximum cooperation from sending and origin countries of migrants, the Italian prime minister's press office said in a statement.
