Algeria will reopen its embassy in Kyiv a year after it was closed because of the Russian troops' entry into Ukraine, Algerian state television reported Sunday, citing a statement from the foreign ministry.

This decision falls within the framework of preserving the interests of the Algerian state and the interests of the national community in that country, state television quoted the Foreign Ministry as saying.

"The Algerian Embassy in Kyiv, which suspended its activities due to the deteriorating security situation in Ukraine, will be managed by a chargé d'affaires," the country's Foreign Ministry said.

The decision to reopen the embassy will take effect "as soon as possible," the statement said.

The embassy closed last March after Russian troops entered Ukraine, Reuters reported.
