Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a law prohibiting the use of foreign words, except for those that do not have common analogues in the Russian language.

The relevant document is published on the official Internet portal of legal information.

The law improves the mechanisms of providing the status of Russian as the state language on the whole territory of the country and controls the observance of norms of modern literary Russian by officials and organizations, by citizens of Russia. The document introduced such notions as normative dictionaries, normative grammars and normative reference books, which fix norms of modern literary Russian.

The document prescribed the list of spheres where Russian as the state language was obligatory to use. It includes information for consumers of goods, works and services, and also the sphere of education, state and municipal information systems.

So, in all the mentioned spheres if there is a text in a foreign language, the text in Russian should be of the same value on the placement and technical design, i.e. have the same parameters - color, type and font size.

It is also noted that when using Russian as the state language it is not allowed to use words and expressions that do not correspond to the modern literary norms, including obscene language, except for foreign words that do not have common analogues in Russian and the list of which is contained in normative dictionaries.
