Iranian border guards on Tuesday announced the arrest of four drug traffickers in Razavi Khorasan province, in the northeast of the country's shared border with Afghanistan, Mehr reported.

Brig. Gen. Majid Shoja, commander of the Razavi Khorasan Border Guard, said the Taybad District Regiment seized 13.7 kilograms of opium and methamphetamine from four drug traffickers who arrived after illegally crossing the common border with Afghanistan in Taybad District in the northeastern province.

"These men, who are citizens of a neighboring country, intended to enter the country illegally," the commander said, adding that they were turned over to judicial officials for trial.

Taibad is 225 kilometers from the provincial capital of Mashhad, on the shared border with Afghanistan.
