After a medical examination last month, US President Joe Biden underwent an operation, and a skin tumor was removed, the White House informed.

All the cancerous tissues have been removed, and there is no need for further treatment, said Biden's doctor.

He added that Biden's dermatological examination will continue as part of permanent medical care.

The 80-year-old US president underwent a medical examination in February and, as the White House announced, he was considered healthy and fit for duty.

Biden's doctor, Kevin O'Connor, announced that the tumor was removed on February 16 at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center near Washington. He noted that no further treatment is required, adding that after the biopsy, it was found that the operated part of Biden’s chest is healing well.

The White House noted that the type of cancer found was basal cell carcinoma, which usually does not metastasize.

Basal cell and squamous cell carcinoma are among the most common types of skin cancer in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, 3.6 million Americans are diagnosed with it each year. This type of cancer is treatable and causes minimal damage if treated in time.

Before being elected US president, Joe Biden underwent a series of operations to remove cancerous skin tumors. In the report of his 2021 medical examination, Dr. O'Connor wrote that the president's tumors have been removed and there were no areas that raise suspicions of skin cancer.
