The European Union’s (EU) mission in Armenia is an attempt to strengthen itself in the post-Soviet area. Kirill Logvinov, Charge d'Affaires a.i. of the Russian Mission to the EU, told RIA Novosti about this.

"This is nothing but an attempt by Brussels, taking advantage of the results of the Armenian-Azerbaijani settlement achieved through the mediation of Russia, to strengthen itself in the post-Soviet territory, playing the role of a kind of ‘mediator,’" Logvinov said.

According to him, "there is also a significant anti-Russian component here; an ambition to neutralize the historical role of our country as a guarantor of security."

On February 20, a new European mission consisting of 100 people—and with a two-year mandate—was deployed in Armenia.
