The death toll in the earthquakes that occurred in southeastern Turkey on February 6 has reached 48,448, the minister of internal affairs announced.

"Including 6,660 foreigners," Suleyman Soylu added at a press briefing in quake-affected Malatya city on Monday.

Two earthquakes with a magnitude of 7.7 and 7.6, respectively, occurred nine hours apart on February 6 in Kahramanmaras Province in southeastern Turkey. These quakes affected 11 provinces of the country and its neighboring countries, including Syria. The Turkish authorities have called these quakes the "catastrophe of the century."
