YEREVAN. - One of the main aims of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s speech to the UN is demonstration of confidence, said Director of Caucasus Institute Aleksandr Iskandaryan at a press conference on Tuesday.

According to the analyst, the President’s speech quite clearly fits into the chain of statements of Armenian officials over the past year and a half.

“Previously the Azeris would come up with revanchist statements and speeches, while Armenia spoke in favor of continuing the negotiating process. This hasn’t changed, we still stand for peaceful solution to the conflict but let them not think that we are unprotected,” he said.

According to Iskandaryan, recently Armenia has been giving quite tough responses to the military rhetoric of Azerbaijan, on behalf of various Armenian officials, including the Defense Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Iskandaryan explained that this means Armenia is not going to disregard statements of the Azeri side and the events of recent past.

“I mean the destroyed drone, the usual reaction of the Armenian and Karabakh parties to the shooting on the border with Azerbaijan, the statements by government officials and, of course, the parade, which was a clear demonstration of Armenia’s force,” Iskandaryan added.
