YEREVAN. – Armenia’s first President Levon Ter-Petrosyan referred to the accusation that there were political prisoners during his reign.

Ter-Petrosyan, responding to the questions of the journalists and citizens in the Liberty Square, spoke on the Dro case in 1994 and the 31 case in 1995.

“Drag trafficking line opened from Beirut to Yerevan. It was cleared out that a terroristic group was operating. Later it was found out that they were members of ARF Dashnaktsutyun.

There are still people in prison on this case. Three people were imprisoned during my reign, while 13 people were in prison during ARF Dashnaktsutyun.

The Dro case was revealed by Davit Shahnazaryan [ANC member], while the 31 case was revealed and the trial was conducted till the end by the current President Serzh Sargsyan, who was Armnia’s Interior Minister at that time," Ter-Petrosyan said.

Ter-Petrosyan in 1994 informed about the investigation of the Dro case. The activity of ARF Dashnaktsutyun was terminated. Later in 1997 its activity was resumed after making some amendments in the ARF Dashnaktsutyun charter.

On the 31 case, members of ARF Dashnaktsutyun (MPs Vahan Hovhannisyan and Armen Rustamyan) were accused of elaborating programs on overthrowing the government regime, including organization of murders.
