YEREVAN. - We initiated the dialogue with the authorities to avoid repetition of Arabian scenario in Armenia, said leader of opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) Levon Ter-Petrosyan, answering to questions of citizens and journalists in Yerevan Liberty square on Monday.

“The reason we started the dialogue was clear enough: both us and the authorities understand that the country faces serious problems – we need to avoid Arabian scenario. But had we not proved our strength, nobody would go for dialogue.

If people did not stand for us, nobody – neither Serzh Sargsyan, nor Raffi Hovannisian and Vardan Oskanian would be considerate with us. We are nothing without the people,” said Ter-Petrosyan.

Opposition-authorities dialogue was suspended in August based on ANC activist Tigran Arakelyan’s detention. ANC claimed Arakelyan is a political prisoner and demanded his release before resume the talks.

Few days ago ANC invited the authorities to continue the dialogue.
