The Russian peacekeepers in Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) are the guarantors of the physical safety of Artsakh Armenians. Opposition MP Hayk Mamijanyan stated about this at Friday’s press briefing in the National Assembly of Armenia.

In particular, he was asked to comment on the incident at the Hakari bridge, where Azerbaijanis tried to place their flag in the presence of Russian peacekeepers Thursday.

Mamijanyan noted that the security guarantees should be considered and analyzed in comparison with the existing possibilities, not what we would like to see.

The noted that he cannot say that he is 100 percent satisfied with the effectiveness of the "Russian umbrella of security."

"Nevertheless, I understand that currently the [Russian] peacekeepers stationed in Artsakh are protecting the safety of my compatriots [in Artsakh], in the case when the prime minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, has essentially ‘washed’ his ‘hands’ [of Artsakh]," added the opposition MP.
