Today, an extraordinary meeting of the Security Council was held under the chairmanship of the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, the Press Service of the President reports.

It is reported that during the event, Tokayev listened to reports from the Prime Minister, General Prosecutor, Chairman of the National Security Committee, the Ministers of Defense, Internal Affairs and Foreign Affairs regarding the situation in the Russian Federation.

“Despite the fact that what happened in Russia is its internal affair, the people of Kazakhstan perceived with concern the situation in a friendly country with which Kazakhstan has the longest border in the world.

The President noted that Russia is a strategic partner of Kazakhstan,” Tokayev's press service said in a statement.

The head of the country recalled that in a telephone conversation with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he supported the measures of the Russian authorities to restore constitutional order and ensure the safety of their citizens. Kassym-Jomart Tokayev welcomed the agreement on the cessation of hostilities.

According to the President of Kazakhstan, the key priority of the internal policy of any state, including Kazakhstan, should be the principle of the rule of law as the basis for ensuring public order and socio-economic development.

During the meeting, the need to ensure financial and economic stability in the country, as well as the security of Kazakh citizens was noted. The President instructed the heads of all departments to be ready to respond to possible threats of crisis situations.

Following the meeting of the Security Council, President Tokayev approved the operational plan of action developed by the government.
