Israel has approved the purchase of a third squadron of F-35 stealth fighter jets in a $3 billion deal, Reuters reports, citing the country's Defense Ministry.
Additional 25 aircraft made by the company Lockheed Martin will bring the number of F-35s in Israeli Air Force's possession to 75, the ministry said, adding that the deal will be funded by a defense aid package Israel is receiving from the US.
In May 2018, the Israeli Air Force Commander-in-Chief claimed that Israel was the first to use the fighter jet in combat.
Lockheed Martin and the Pratt & Whitney engine manufacturer have agreed to involve Israeli defense firms in the production of aircraft parts.
