Heavy fighting between the Sudanese Army and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) rocked the Sudanese capital Khartoum once again on Sunday as disease and malnutrition threaten a growing number of displaced people, AFP reports.
A resident of Khartoum said he was awakened from his sleep by "fierce fighting during which various weapons were used." Another resident reported the use of military aircraft.
Around 3,000 people have been killed since mid-April when fighting between forces loyal to army commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the Rapid Support Forces broke out.
The death toll is believed to be well above the recorded, as the World Health Organization claims that about two-thirds of medical facilities have been "out of service" in areas affected by the fighting.
According to the UN, a record 25 million people in Sudan are in need of humanitarian assistance and protection.
