According to the US Department of Defense, a US UAV strike killed a leader of Islamic State group in Syria hours after the same MQ-9 Reaper UAVs were "harassed" by Russian warplanes over the western part of the country, The Associated Press reports.
On Friday, three drones were flying in search of the militant when they were "harassed" by Russian jets for around two hours, a US defense official said. Shortly thereafter, drones struck and killed ISIS leader Usamah al-Muhajir riding a motorcycle in Aleppo, the official added.
It is still unknown how the US military was convinced that it was al-Muhajir who was killed.
