YEREVAN. - Armenian Police does not intend to break up opposition 24-hour rallies at the Liberty Square in Yerevan downtown at least for now. They are making a peaceful meeting but the patience of law enforcement bodies may come to an end, said Chief of Armenian Police Alik Sargsyan after Cabinet meeting on Thursday.

"I am not going to distribute Coca-cola or Pepsi-cola to the opposition, my duty is to secure public order. Everything has its measures and limitations. They might occupy the square for 5 days, for 10 days but they need to free the space eventually," said Sargsyan. "I think this is futile. I do not see concrete results. The police will act as I just said but at a certain point our patience might come to the end. We cannot afford to have this situation for months."

The Police Chief denied the information that the roads to the capital are closed.

"As Police Chief I have the right to control the situation. The surveillance was strengthened to control the situation," he said.
