Incumbent president Shavkat Mirziyoyev has garnered 87.05 percent of votes and is winning the special elections of the head of state, announced the chairman of the Central Election Commission (CEC) of Uzbekistan, Zainiddin Nizamkhojayev.

The special presidential elections in Uzbekistan took place on Sunday. These are the first presidential elections after the amendments to the country’s constitution, which provide for increasing the term of office of the president from five to seven years. According to the constitutional law of Uzbekistan, Mirziyoyev, 65, who is in office for a second term, can be run for that office again.

According to the CEC data, the voter turnout in the elections was 79.8 percent, or 15.6 million people.

In the 2021 presidential elections, Mirziyoyev had won by getting 80.31 percent of votes, and the voter turnout was 80.04 percent.
