A shooting on Friday in Fargo, North Dakota, left one policeman dead and two others seriously injured, The Associated Press reports, citing police.

Eyewitnesses say a man fired at police officers on a busy street, after which other police officers shot him dead.

According to the police, an investigation is underway.

“We sincerely are asking for your patience and our community’s patience and understanding as the Fargo Police Department works through this incident,” Gregg Schildberger, chief communications officer, said on Friday evening, adding the Fargo PD plans to release more details Saturday afternoon.

No details on a possible motive were provided.
