Food insecurity and shortages of medical supplies in Nagorno Karabakh are very troubling, Samantha Power, the administrator of the United States Agency for International Development, wrote on her X/Twitter page.

She presented the U.S. Secretary of State Anthony Blinken's recent tweet, in which Blinken expresses deep concerns regarding the humanitarian crisis created in Nagorno Karabakh.

Samanta Power stressed that the Lachin corridor is critical for getting lifesaving supplies to the people of Nagorno Karabakh.

“I join Secretary Blinken's call for the free transit of commercial and humanitarian supplies through the corridor,” she wrote.

Azerbaijan is holding Nagorno Karabakh in blockade for seven months now, depriving its 120,000 residents of necessities. Armenia sent 360 tons of humanitarian aid to Nagorno Karabakh last week, but Azerbaijan would not allow it to pass through the checkpoint it has set up in the Lachin corridor. The humanitarian crisis in Nagorno Karabakh is deteriorating on a daily basis.

Earlier, Matthew Miller, the official representative of the U.S. State Department, said in the July 31 briefing that the U.S. continues to believe in the possibility of a peace treaty and for this to happen Armenia and Azerbaijan will have to make difficult compromises. He also informed that Anthony Blinken is personally involved in the negotiation process to encourage the leaders to reach the signing of the peace agreement.
