YEREVAN. – To stop the pregnancy became a traditional tendency if the sex of future baby is female, former deputy minister of Social Security Karine Hakobyan said.

“In case such a law is adopted in Armenia, it will not be put into effect immediately. The society itself should be brought up, everything should start from educational institutions and media,” the expert said and added that Armenia joint the International convention on protection of the rights of children in 1993.

Thus, a child’s rights should be a priority. 

Another expert, chief doctor of the American center for healthcare protection Marina Voskanyan, stated that there would always be people to pay and learn the sex of future child, but it will not be massively.

“Women should understand that it is within their interests. The family should not change its demographic course.

PACE adopted a resolution to call Armenia, Albania, Azerbaijan and Georgia stop using reproductive technologies in sex selection and legal aborts.

The resolution gives the following proportions: 105 boys for 100 girls in Albania, 112 to 100 in Armenia and Azerbaijan and 111 to 100 in Georgia.
