BEIJING. – China has paid attention to the implementation of the project and is closely following the actual operation of that international corridor. There is a saying "all roads lead to Rome;" the further strengthening of transport interconnection between various countries is very important, especially in the current international situation. This was stated by the deputy director general of the Department of European-Central Asian Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) of China, Cheng Yikun, at a press conference held in Beijing. He noted this answering Armenian News-NEWS.am's question about what importance China attaches to North-South Road Corridor project in the context that the Belt and Road Initiative of the Silk Road through Central Asia to Russia and Belarus is now closed, and the road through Armenia to the Black Sea by land and then to Europe is one of the routes.
"This year marks the tenth anniversary of the One Belt One Road [(Belt and Road)] Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Eurasian countries are important partners for us in the implementation of that initiative. China attaches great importance to the implementation of this initiative, which is related to the national development strategy and other integration processes in our region. It is also important to advance further investment plans in transportation infrastructure to ensure uninterrupted operation of production chains and supplies in our region," said Cheng.
"China is ready and open to all initiatives that are useful for improving the interconnection. China is ready to ensure the promotion of the One Belt One Road Initiative and give an additional boost to development in our region," the Chinese MFA official added.
