YEREVAN. - Statement by Azerbaijani MFA official that the relationship between Armenia and Russia cause instability in the region is another absurdity, MP from ruling Republican Party Eduard Sharmazanov told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

According to him, Russia, as a permanent member of the UN Security Council, as a strategic partner of Armenia and as co-chair of OSCE Minsk Group is a balancing power in the region.

“I see that Azerbaijanis are uncomfortable with Armenian-Russian fraternal relations. Azerbaijan can do nothing but cope with the situation and refrain from further mistakes,” stated Sharmazanov.

The MP said that it is Azerbaijan who threatens security in the region first, pushing a policy of terrorism at the state level. Consequently, Russia and other OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs should respond adequately to such statements voiced by Azerbaijan.

At GUAM countries international conference “Establishing relationships across borders”, the official of Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Elchin Huseynli stated that “Relations between Russia and Armenia cause instability in the region. Armenia- the smallest country in the region has important political and military agreements with Russia,” he said.
