The road leading from Akna (Aghdam) to Stepanakert is just a logistical road, and we do not know if and when it will be operational. But if the opening of this road is connected with the opening of the Lachin corridor, and even more so, if the Lachin corridor is substituted by this road, then this will be a disaster and the end of Artsakh. David Babayan, advisor to the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) President and former foreign minister of Artsakh, told this to Armenian News-NEWS.am.

"After that, the concept of a ‘corridor’ will disappear, and the people [of Artsakh], if necessary, will not even be able to escape, will not be able to leave. The matter of opening [the road from Azerbaijan’s Aghdam town to Artsakh capital Stepanakert] should not become political," he said.

According to the advisor of the Artsakh president, the matter of substituting one road with another is also a geopolitical matter, and the attempt to implement that plan will be linked to Azerbaijan’s wish to “suffocate” Artsakh as soon as possible.

Babayan explained that those who were supposed to leave Artsakh, including students and medical patients who are in critical condition, are leaving Artsakh now.

"Citizens of other countries are also leaving. But this is a very small percentage of people in Artsakh. The [Russian] peacekeepers [in Artsakh] were asked to at least transport the university students and patients. The Red Cross is also working," emphasized the advisor to the Artsakh President.

But he did not rule out that Azerbaijan may stop this category of people as well and announce that it will not let anyone go, or it may abduct people again.

"Everything is possible," added David Babayan.
