French President Emmanuel Macron called Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev Tuesday, Azerbaijani media reported.

It is noted that the situation in the region, as well as the matter of opening of the Aghdam-Stepanakert and Lachin-Stepanakert motorways were discussed during the telephone conversation.

Aliyev told Macron that after the opening of the Aghdam-Stepanakert road, the Lachin-Stepanakert road can be used in compliance with the rules of the customs and border procedure of Azerbaijan.

Aliyev complained to Macron that Armenia and Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) have abandoned the preliminary agreement reached with the mediation of the Red Cross regarding the transportation of goods along the Aghdam-Stepanakert motorway.

"Besides, the leadership of Armenia, without agreeing with the Azerbaijani side, delivered humanitarian cargo, as it claims, to the state border, the purpose of which is political speculation," he said.

Aliyev added that Azerbaijan "invited the representatives of the Armenian population of Karabakh to Baku and other cities of Azerbaijan to discuss reintegration issues, but they refused that, too, deliberately seeking to present the situation as having the nature of humanitarian tension."
