The administration of US President Joe Biden will send depleted uranium munitions to Ukraine for the first time, according to a document obtained by Reuters and confirmed by two US officials.
These anti-tank missiles are part of a fresh military assistance package for Ukraine scheduled for next week. A source familiar with the situation also indicated that US Abrams tanks, set to arrive in Ukraine in the near future, can deploy these rounds.
According to one of the officials, the cost and content of the package are still being specified.
Previously, the Biden administration decided to provide Ukraine with cluster munitions, even though there were concerns about the risk these weapons posed to civilians.
