German Chancellor Olaf Scholz held a telephone conversation with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan today, the German Chancellor's press service reports.

"The focus was on the tense situation in the border zone between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The Chancellor expressed deep concern about the tensions that have been steadily rising in recent weeks, especially in connection with the redeployment of military units. The Federal Government urges refraining from any military escalation. What is needed now is a rapid agreement on humanitarian assistance to the population of Nagorno-Karabakh, including the opening of the Lachin corridor.

The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan can be resolved only through diplomatic channels - now everyone should urgently work constructively to achieve this goal," the report says.
