YEREVAN.- Erection of stone wall along the line of contact between the armed forces of Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijan has a number of positive points, military expert Artsrun Hovhannisyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

“Psychological factor plays an important role. Azerbaijan declares it set a task to protect people, I personally doubt a bit. But in this case the people of Azerbaijan view the wall as its boundary state. The notion called “line of contact, a border line” is in the past, now it turns into a frontier,” the expert said.

If the wall is built as a bunker of Azerbaijani snipers, this may create some difficulties, he added.

“However, I doubt they can build such a wall which will ideally protect from fire from the Armenian positions. It is a three-meter stone wall, which poses no threat from a military viewpoint,” he said.

The expert stressed that the wall is important for Armenians and Azerbaijanis as it embodies the border between Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh.

“It can grow all along the borders of Azerbaijan and Nagorno-Karabakh and Azerbaijani people will realize ‘this is the border’,” said Hovhannisyan.

Earlier, one of Azerbaijani agencies reported they are building a stone defensive wall in the line of contact between Azerbaijani and Karabakh armed forces.
