YEREVAN. – Armenian-American relations should deepen on three directions, U.S. Ambassador to Armenia John Heffern told the journalists on Monday.

The Ambassador believes that he can better recognize the Armenian history and culture in time, as it is his first visit to Armenia. The American diplomat said that he has met the Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan the same day and presented credentials to him. Besides, he has met Armenian FM Edward Nalbandian.

According to Heffern, relations between the two states should be developed on three directions: regional collaboration, integration of economy and work in the political sphere. The Ambassador also stated the importance on holding 2012 parliamentary and 2013 presidential elections in Armenia on a high level and in accordance with the international standards. Stating high level relations between the two states, Heffern said that two visits of U.S. State Department officials are expecting in the near future.
