YEREVAN. - U.S. appreciates Armenia’s contribution to international and regional security, and attaches importance to cooperation with Armenia in these areas, said U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for the Bureau of Arms Control, Verification and Compliance Rose Gottemoeller.

U.S. official was received by Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on Tuesday.

President Sargsyan expressed his satisfaction with the fact that all-round cooperation between Armenia and U.S. among others includes the sphere of arms control. He also highlighted the visit of the U.S. delegation, marking it provides an excellent opportunity to exchange views on issues of disarmament and arms control, presidential office’s press service informed Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Serzh Sargsyan stressed that Armenia continues consideration of the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE) as a pillar of stability and security in Europe and considers it necessary to modernize and continue implementing it.

In the context, Armenian president drew Gottemoeller’s attention to violations of treaty obligations by Azerbaijan which continues for years, as well as constant threats of force voiced by Baku.
