An agreement has been reached with Iran regarding the construction of a road and a railway, which will enable access to the Autonomous Republic of Nakhichevan through the territory of Iran, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has said in an address to the participants of the 27th session of the Council of Ministers of the Economic Cooperation Organization.

“Azerbaijan is also a reliable transit country, and our transport and logistics infrastructure is open to all countries of the Economic Cooperation Organization.

Taking into account the growing demand for East-West cargo transportation, we aim to increase the volume of cargo transported by the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway from 1 million tons to 5 million tons.

Azerbaijan is actively working to further expand the capacity of the North-South transport corridor," reads Aliyev’s address.
