The session of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) held in Saint Petersburg, Russia on Monday was an important event for the countries of the Eurasian integration area. Aram Safaryan, director of the Center for Russian Studies at Yerevan State University  and coordinator of the Eurasian Expert Club, said this at a press conference Tuesday.

"The importance of this summit is emphasized particularly for the Republic of Armenia because Armenia's membership in the Eurasian Economic Union is gradually becoming more and more of an important circumstance for our economic development," Safaryan added.

"May 2024 will mark the tenth anniversary of the Eurasian Economic Union. Within the framework of this memorable year, EAEU declarations are expected to be adopted on the benchmarks for the further development of the EAEU until 2030 and until 2045. In the management and expert frameworks of the Eurasian Five, there is now an intensive academic search in order to give sound content to those declarations. We, the researchers and experts dealing with the topics of Eurasian integration of Armenia, declare that we are ready to bring our noticeable participation in the process of discussion, development, and wording of those important documents,” Aram Safaryan noted. 

To note, Armenia will assume the EAEU chairmanship in 2024.

"It is important to emphasize that in 2023, Russia, presiding over the EAEU, implemented very noticeable measures to promote interest in the integration topic. (...). In 2024, Armenia can take a noticeable part in further increasing international interest in the Eurasian integration process by launching several major events during its chairmanship, with the participation of high-ranking and respected specialists from various countries. It is important to accept and raise the indisputable truth that we [i.e. Armenia] have a considerable interest in and benefits from participating in this process," said Aram Safaryan.
