The ambassador of Armenia to Belgium, Tigran Balayan, met with the President of the Chamber of Representatives of Belgium, Eliane Tillieux, informed the embassy of Armenia in Belgium.
During the meeting Ambassador Balayan expressed his appreciation for the continuous support of the Belgian parliament manifested through its various resolutions and statements as well as active engagement in the opening of a resident Embassy of Belgium in Yerevan.
Ambassador Balayan gave a detailed presentation about the priorities of his diplomatic mission, presenting the current state of political, economic, cultural, and scientific cooperation between the two countries.
Also, he described the humanitarian consequences of Armenian ethnic cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh perpetrated by Azerbaijan, and presented the information about the efforts by the Armenian government to provide assistance to more than 140,000 forcibly displaced people.
In this context, Ambassador Balayan outlined the peace process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, and touched upon the Crossroads of Peace project initiated by the Armenian government.
Tillieux, in turn, noted that Belgium has condemned the war against Nagorno-Karabakh launched by Azerbaijan and the forced displacement of the Armenian population while stressing the importance of protection of their right to return to their homeland.
She positively assessed the Armenia-Belgium cooperation, the reform agenda implemented by the Armenian government and Armenia’s rapprochement with the European Union in the context of Belgian presidency in the EU.
