YEREVAN. – Parliament speaker should support full independence of legislative body from executive one, secretary of oppositional parliamentary ARF Dashnaksutyun group Artyusha Shahbazyan told Armenian News-NEWS.am.

Regarding elections of a new parliament speaker, Shahbazyan said that ARF will hardly express its viewpoint on any candidate.

“After the appointment of the new parliament speaker, ARF may express its position. We currently do not think it necessary to state. We just hope that it is an educated person, had solid reputation and strived to hold the policy of parliament functioning,” MP stated.

According to him, parliament should not be the place for composting bills. Parliament should state its viewpoint by disagreeing or even clearly stating its ‘no’ to the government, Shahbazyan concluded.

Incumbent Parliament speaker Hovik Abrahamyan will resign on November 14. Ruling Republican Party of Armenia will appoint a new candidate next week.
